INDONESIA PRODUCTS
Indonesia, especially Bali, holds a record number of artists and craftsmen working in many artistic areas: carvings, pottery, textiles, music, paintings, drama, etc. Local Balinese culture has absorbed numerous influences over time, mainly Buddhist, Hindu, Javanese and Western, having an effect on the resulting art forms.
Indonesia has a strong pottery making tradition which is developed in many regions with different variations to create home accessories.
Batik clothes come from central Java. They can be easily recognized by their colorful motifs and intricate designs that come in many different styles. In the procedure, the parts of the cloth that should not be dyed are first covered with wax. Batik is an elaborate process that requires time but results in beautiful sarongs and textiles. “Ikat” and “double ikat” are popular weavings that are made in Bali and other Indonesian islands. The technique consists of tying the threads of the cloth in order to selectively apply the ink that creates the patterns. Some of these clothes are then used to dress statues and in ceremonies.
